Flipkart HR interview questions and answers

12 Flipkart HR interview questions with sample answers: why HR asks each one and how to answer. From public candidate reports. Free.

At Flipkart the HR round sits at the end of the loop, after the online assessment and the technical and machine coding rounds, and it usually runs 30 to 45 minutes over a video call. A recruiter or an HR business partner conducts it, and for SDE roles it is mostly a fit and logistics conversation rather than a filter on coding. Candidates often report that the offer discussion, salary fitment and document collection happen in this same stage, so treat it as the last gate before the offer.

What the Flipkart HR round checks:

Flipkart HR interview questions with answers

6 of these 12 questions appear in public Flipkart interview reports; the rest are standard HR questions the company is known to ask.

1. What are your CTC expectations? (reported)

Why they ask: This is the most common Flipkart HR question and it sets the anchor for salary fitment.

How to answer: Give a fixed number plus a small range, not a vague 'as per company norms'. Base it on your current fixed pay, your notice period and what you know Flipkart pays for this level, and say the number calmly once. If they push for your current CTC, share fixed pay and mention variable separately.

Sample answer: My current fixed pay is [current CTC] and I am expecting a fixed component of around [expected CTC], with the standard variable and stock as per Flipkart's band for this level. I am flexible on the split between fixed and variable if the total is in that range. I would rather be transparent now than negotiate after the offer, so this is my honest expectation.

2. Why do you want to leave your current company? (reported)

Why they ask: They want to hear a forward-looking reason, not a complaint about your manager or team.

How to answer: Keep it about growth and scale, not about people. Name one concrete thing Flipkart offers that your current role does not, like the scale of the marketplace or ownership of a full service. Never badmouth your current employer, even if the reason is genuinely bad management.

Sample answer: I have learnt a lot at [current company], but the systems I work on serve a few thousand users and I want to work at marketplace scale. Flipkart's fulfilment and supply chain problems are the kind I have been reading about for a while, and I want to own a service end to end there. The move is about the problem size, not about anything wrong with my current team.

3. What did you like most about the job description? (reported)

Why they ask: They are checking whether you actually read the JD or just applied to the brand name.

How to answer: Pick one or two specific lines from the JD and connect them to something you have already done. Do not say 'everything looks good' or repeat the whole JD back. One honest point about what excited you and one about what you want to learn is enough.

Sample answer: The part about owning backend services for the fulfilment group stood out to me, because in my current role I have taken a service from design to production and I liked that ownership. The other thing was the mention of working with large data volumes, which is exactly the area I want to grow into. I have not worked at this scale before, and that is the main reason I applied.

4. What experience do you have that would be relevant to this role? (reported)

Why they ask: They want a short, structured summary of your background that matches the role, not your full resume read aloud.

How to answer: Pick two or three projects and map each to a requirement in the JD. Use one line per project: what you built, what you used, what changed because of it. Keep it under two minutes and leave room for follow-up questions.

Sample answer: I have about [X years] of experience, mostly on backend services. In my current role at [current company] I built [project] using [tech stack], which cut [metric] by around [number]. Before that I worked on [second project], where I handled [responsibility]. The common thread is that I have owned services end to end, from design and code review to on-call, which is what this role seems to need.

5. How do you manage deadlines when work is piling up? (reported)

Why they ask: This is a standard Flipkart HR question and they want to see prioritisation, not heroics.

How to answer: Talk about how you decide what matters first and how you communicate early when a date is at risk. Give one real example where you renegotiated a deadline instead of silently missing it. Avoid saying you just work late to finish everything.

Sample answer: I start by listing what is actually blocking other people, because that usually decides the order. In my last release I had two tasks due the same week, so I told my lead early that the second one would slip by two days and why, and we moved it. I would rather flag a risk on day one than surprise the team on the deadline.

6. Are you comfortable relocating to Bangalore, and with the shift timings?

Why they ask: Flipkart hires for offices in Bangalore and other locations, and they want to know if location or shifts will become a problem later.

How to answer: Answer directly with a yes or no and a short reason. If you need time to relocate, say how much time and why. Do not say 'I will manage' without details, because they have heard that before and it usually means a problem later.

Sample answer: Yes, I am comfortable relocating to Bangalore. I will need about [X weeks] to wrap up my current place and move, but I can start by [date] without any issue. On shifts, I am fine with the standard hours and with occasional late calls when a release needs it. I have done on-call before, so that part is not new to me.

7. What is your notice period, and can you join earlier if needed? (reported)

Why they ask: Joining date is the single biggest reason offers get delayed or dropped, and Flipkart often wants people early.

How to answer: State your official notice period and then say honestly what is negotiable. If your manager has not confirmed an early release, say that instead of promising a date you cannot control. Candidates who overpromise here end up in exactly the situation where the offer is at risk.

Sample answer: My official notice period is [X days], and I have already spoken to my manager about an early release. He has not confirmed the exact last working day yet, and I expect to know by [date]. I do not want to commit to a date I cannot keep, so I will update HR as soon as it is confirmed. If it helps, I can share the email trail with my manager.

8. Do you have any other offers in hand right now?

Why they ask: They use this to judge how fast they need to move and how serious you are about Flipkart.

How to answer: Be honest but do not use it as a threat. If you have another offer, say so, give the rough timeline, and make it clear Flipkart is your first choice if that is true. If you have nothing else, just say so plainly.

Sample answer: Yes, I am in the final stage with [one other company] and they have asked for a decision by [date]. Flipkart is my first choice because of the scale of the work, so I wanted to be upfront about the timeline. If the process here can move by then, I will happily close the other one.

9. Tell me about yourself.

Why they ask: It is the opening question in almost every HR round and sets the tone for the next thirty minutes.

How to answer: Two minutes maximum. Cover where you studied or worked, what you have built, and why you are sitting in this interview. Do not narrate your whole life or repeat your resume line by line. End on the role, so the next question is easy for them to ask.

Sample answer: I am [name], I graduated from [your college] in [year] and I have been working as a backend engineer at [current company] for [X years]. Most of my work has been on [domain], and the project I am proudest of is [project], where I [one line on impact]. Outside work I [one hobby]. I applied to Flipkart because I want to work on systems at marketplace scale, and this role lines up with what I have been doing.

10. What are your strengths and one weakness?

Why they ask: They want self-awareness, not a rehearsed strength list or a fake weakness.

How to answer: Give one strength with a short example that proves it, then one real weakness and what you are doing about it. Pick a weakness that is not a core requirement of the job, like public speaking or over-detailing in code reviews. Do not say 'I am a perfectionist'.

Sample answer: My strength is that I stay with a problem until it is actually fixed, not just patched. When [issue] broke in production, I traced it to the root cause over two days instead of adding a retry. My weakness is that I used to write very long code reviews, which slowed the team down. I have started keeping them to the blocking points only, and my last few reviews were much shorter.

11. Where do you see yourself in three to five years?

Why they ask: They are checking whether your plan fits the kind of growth Flipkart can offer, or whether you will leave in a year.

How to answer: Keep it grounded in the engineering ladder, not in titles you cannot justify. Talk about depth in one area and taking on more ownership, like leading a module or mentoring. Avoid saying you want to move into management or start a company.

Sample answer: In three years I want to be the person the team trusts with the hardest service in the group, and to have gone deep in [area like distributed systems or payments]. After that I would like to mentor newer engineers and own a module end to end. I am not in a hurry to move into management, I would rather build that technical depth first.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

Why they ask: They are checking whether you are genuinely interested and whether you have thought about the role.

How to answer: Ask two or three real questions about the team, the on-call load, or how the first ninety days look. Do not ask about salary or leave policy here, that comes later in the offer discussion. Avoid questions whose answer is on the first page of the careers site.

Sample answer: Yes, a couple. Which team would I be joining within the group, and what does the first ninety days look like for a new engineer there? Also, how does on-call work in that team, is it a weekly rotation? I would like to know what success looks like in the first quarter so I can plan my ramp-up.

What candidates report about the Flipkart HR round

HR round position in the process. Candidates report the HR discussion comes after the online assessment and the technical and machine coding rounds, close to the offer stage.

Salary fitment and documents. Candidates commonly report that HR collects documents for salary fitment and that the revert after that can take one to two weeks, so a silence of a week or more is not unusual.

Notice period pressure. Candidates report Flipkart pushing for early joining, sometimes asking for a date earlier than the full notice period, which is why the joining date question matters so much.

CTC expectation question. What are your CTC expectations is listed among the most common Flipkart HR questions, so have a fixed number ready before the call.

Customer and deadline questions. Flipkart HR rounds commonly include questions on managing deadlines and handling customer or shipment issues, even for engineering roles, so expect one situational question.

Team allocation. Candidates report being asked about comfort with a specific group such as the fulfilment service group, so be ready to say something informed about the team you are being hired into.
