11 Groww HR interview questions with sample answers: why HR asks each one and how to answer. From public candidate reports. Free.

At Groww the HR round usually comes at the end, after the coding, machine coding or design rounds, and sometimes it is just a short call from a recruiter rather than a full scheduled round. Candidates report HR contact by phone or Google Meet, often within a few days of clearing the technical rounds, and it typically runs 20 to 30 minutes. For interns and freshers it often doubles as the offer discussion, covering stipend, PPO terms and joining date.

Groww HR interview questions with answers

3 of these 11 questions appear in public Groww interview reports; the rest are standard HR questions the company is known to ask.

1. Where do you live, and are you comfortable relocating to Bangalore? (reported)

Why they ask: Groww's engineering work is onsite in Bangalore, so they want to know your location and whether relocation is a real problem later.

How to answer: Answer the location part plainly, then give a clear yes or no on relocation. If you need time to move, say how long, for example two to three weeks after the offer. Do not say you are flexible if you are not, because it comes up again at joining.

Sample answer: I currently live in [your city] with my family. I am completely fine relocating to Bangalore for this role. I have lived away from home during college, so moving is not an issue for me. If the offer comes through, I can join within [two to three] weeks so I have time to arrange accommodation and travel.

2. Walk me through your background and what you have worked on so far. (reported)

Why they ask: This is the standard opener. They are checking whether your story is clear and whether your experience lines up with the resume they shortlisted.

How to answer: Keep it to about ninety seconds. Cover college, current or last role, the one or two projects you actually built, and the stack you used. End with why you are talking to Groww, not with a summary of your whole life.

Sample answer: I graduated from [your college] in [year] with a degree in [branch]. After that I joined [current company] as a [role], where I have been working on [one line about your main project, for example a payments or backend service]. Before that, my main college project was [project name], where I built [what it did] using [stack]. I am now looking for a role where I can work on systems at real scale, which is why Groww interests me.

3. Why do you want to join Groww? (reported)

Why they ask: They want to hear a reason that is about the company and the work, not just about getting any offer.

How to answer: Pick one or two concrete things about Groww: the scale of retail investing in India, the product surface, or the engineering problems in a fintech. Then connect it to something you have actually done. Avoid saying you like the culture or the brand without any substance behind it.

Sample answer: I have used Groww myself and I find the product simple, which is not easy to pull off in investing. What pulls me in is the scale. Millions of users checking portfolios and placing orders means the backend has to be fast and correct all the time, and that is the kind of problem I want to work on. In my current work I have handled [one concrete thing, for example latency or data consistency], and I want to keep doing that at a bigger scale.

4. What are your salary expectations?

Why they ask: They are checking whether your number fits their band before they spend more time on you.

How to answer: If you are a fresher or intern, say you are aligned with the standard Groww offer for the role and ask what the band is. If you are experienced, give a range based on your current fixed pay plus a reasonable hike, and mention that you are open if the role and growth are right. Never give a single rigid number in the first sentence.

Sample answer: For this role I am looking at the standard band Groww has for [SDE-1 or SDE-2]. My current fixed is [amount], and I am expecting something in the range of [X to Y] depending on the overall structure. I am flexible if the role and the growth are right, so I would like to hear what the band is for this position.

5. What is your notice period, and when can you join?

Why they ask: Groww hires against open headcount, so they need to know how soon you can actually start.

How to answer: State your notice period exactly as it is in your contract, then give a realistic joining date. If you are serving notice, say how much is left. If you are a fresher, say you can join immediately or on the date they prefer.

Sample answer: My notice period is [30 or 60 or 90] days as per my contract, and I have [number] days left to serve. So I can join by [specific date]. If Groww needs me earlier, I can check with my manager about an early release, but I do not want to promise something I cannot confirm.

6. Are you okay with the bond or service agreement if there is one for this role?

Why they ask: Some Groww offers, especially intern to full time conversions, come with a service agreement. They want to know you have read it and are not going to walk away in month two.

How to answer: Ask them to share the exact terms in writing before you answer. Once you have seen the duration and the amount, say clearly whether you accept it. Do not agree to something you have not read just to keep the conversation smooth.

Sample answer: I am open to a service agreement if that is standard for this role. Before I confirm, could you share the exact duration and terms in writing? Once I have seen it, I can give you a clear yes. I would rather be sure now than have a problem later.

7. Do you have any other offers or interviews in progress?

Why they ask: They are gauging how much time they have and whether you are serious about Groww or using it as a backup.

How to answer: Be honest but do not oversell. If you have another offer, say so and give the timeline you are working with. If Groww is your first choice, say that plainly and explain why. Do not bluff about a competing offer you do not have.

Sample answer: I am in the process with [one or two companies] and I expect to hear back in about [timeframe]. I have not signed anything yet. Groww is the one I am most interested in because of the fintech scale, so if the offer comes through in that window, I would be ready to move ahead.

8. Tell me about a time you had a disagreement with a teammate or manager.

Why they ask: This is a fit check. They want to see whether you can handle a difference of opinion without either going silent or escalating everything.

How to answer: Pick a small, real incident, not a dramatic one. Explain what the disagreement was, what you did to resolve it, and what the outcome was. Keep the other person out of it as the villain; show that you argued on the merits and then committed to the decision.

Sample answer: In my [college project or current job], my teammate wanted to [one approach] and I thought [other approach] was better for [reason]. We were stuck for a day, so I put both options on a small test and showed the numbers. His approach was actually faster for our case, so we went with it. I was wrong on that one, and it was fine. We shipped on time and I learned to bring data into the argument earlier.

9. Why should we hire you over other candidates?

Why they ask: They want a short, confident pitch, not a list of adjectives.

How to answer: Name one or two things you bring that are specific to this role: a stack you know well, a problem you have solved, or a way you work. Keep it to three or four sentences and do not put down other candidates.

Sample answer: I have worked on [specific area, for example backend services or frontend performance] for [time], and I can point to [one concrete result]. I also pick up new stacks quickly, which matters here because Groww's product moves fast. I am not claiming to know everything, but I will ask questions early and get to a working solution rather than sit on a problem.

10. What do you know about Groww as a company?

Why they ask: Basic research check. If you cannot say what Groww does, the rest of the interview looks weak.

How to answer: Know the one line: Groww is a retail investing platform where people buy mutual funds and stocks. Add one recent thing you have read about the product or the business. Do not recite funding rounds you are unsure about.

Sample answer: Groww is a retail investing platform. People use it to invest in mutual funds and stocks, and the pitch is that investing should be simple enough for a first time investor. I have used the app, and I have read that the user base has grown a lot in the last few years. That scale is the part I find interesting from an engineering side.

11. Do you have any questions for us?

Why they ask: They are checking whether you are actually evaluating the role or just collecting an offer.

How to answer: Ask two or three real questions: which team you would join, what the first three months look like, how the intern to full time conversion works if it is an intern role, or what the on call rotation is like. Skip questions about leave policy and perks in this round.

Sample answer: Yes, a few. Which team would I be working with if I join, and what would my first three months look like? For the intern role, how does the PPO decision work at the end? And is there an on call rotation for the team I would be on? I want to understand the day to day before I decide.

What candidates report about the Groww HR round

Hiring rounds. Candidates report four rounds for SDE roles: resume shortlist, an assignment or online test, one or two technical rounds, and then HR. For interns the assignment round has been a frontend build task with a fixed stack.

HR contact. HR contact is often a phone call or a short Google Meet rather than a long scheduled round, and it can come within a few days of clearing the technical rounds.

Location. Engineering roles are onsite in Bangalore, and relocation comes up in the HR conversation.

Intern compensation. One reported 2024 frontend intern offer was around 60k per month stipend with a 20L CTC full time offer on conversion, including base, joining bonus and ESOPs. Treat this as one data point, not the standard band.

Service agreement. Commonly reported for Indian product companies, some offers include a service agreement or bond. Groww's exact terms are not confirmed in the reports, so ask for them in writing.

Interview focus. Reported interview topics at Groww lean on algorithms, data structures and system design, so the HR round is mostly a fit and logistics check rather than a filter on its own.
