At Qualcomm the HR round usually comes after you clear the technical and managerial rounds, and it is the last gate before the offer. Candidates report it runs 30 to 45 minutes and is handled by a recruiter or an HR business partner, sometimes combined with a short discussion with the hiring manager. It is mostly about your background, why Qualcomm, pay expectations, relocation, notice period and documents, not coding.

What the Qualcomm HR round checks:

The first question is always some version of "tell me about yourself". Write your self introduction for the interview (free, no signup).

Qualcomm HR interview questions with answers

Standard HR questions for Qualcomm, with sample answers.

1. Why do you want to join Qualcomm?

Why they ask: They want to know if your interest is genuine or you are just applying everywhere.

How to answer: Connect one specific thing about Qualcomm's work to something you have actually done. Keep it short and concrete, not a speech about the company being a global leader. If you worked on embedded, wireless or low level systems, say so and link it.

Sample answer: I have worked on [embedded or systems work] during my time at [your college or company], and Qualcomm is one of the few places where that kind of work sits at the core of the product. I also spoke to a few people in the [Display or Modem] team during my interviews and the problems they described, like power and latency trade offs, are exactly what I want to work on. So it is not a generic application for me.

2. What are your salary expectations?

Why they ask: They are checking whether your number fits the band before they spend more time on you.

How to answer: Give a range, not a single number, and anchor it to what you know about the role level. If you are a fresher, say you are open to the standard fresher package and more interested in the work. If experienced, state your current fixed pay and say you are looking for a reasonable hike.

Sample answer: My current fixed pay is [amount] and I am looking at a hike in the range of [X to Y] percent, so somewhere around [range]. I am flexible on the exact number if the role and level are right. What matters more to me is the team and the kind of work, so I am happy to hear what the band is for this position.

3. Are you willing to relocate to Hyderabad or Bangalore?

Why they ask: Qualcomm's teams are spread across sites and they do not want a relocation surprise later.

How to answer: Answer directly yes or no. If yes, add that you have already thought about it, for example you have family or friends there or you are fine moving alone. Do not say yes if you cannot actually move, because it will come back at offer stage.

Sample answer: Yes, I am open to relocating. I have lived away from home before during [college or previous job], so moving to [Hyderabad or Bangalore] is not a problem for me. I would just need a few weeks to sort out my notice period and shifting, but the location itself is fine.

4. What is your notice period and when can you join?

Why they ask: They are matching your start date to the team's need and checking if you are serving a notice already.

How to answer: State your notice period exactly as per your contract and then give a realistic joining date. If you can negotiate an early release, mention it but do not promise something you have not confirmed with your manager. Freshers should just say they can join immediately.

Sample answer: My notice period is [30 or 60 or 90] days as per my contract. I have already spoken to my manager and I can likely get it down to [shorter period] if needed. So realistically I can join by [date]. If the team needs me earlier, I can try to work it out, but I would not want to commit to a date I cannot keep.

5. Tell me about yourself and your background.

Why they ask: This is the standard opener to see how you present yourself and whether your story matches your resume.

How to answer: Keep it to about a minute. Cover where you studied or worked, what you have built, and one thing that led you to this role. Do not repeat your resume line by line and do not start from childhood.

Sample answer: I completed my [degree] from [your college] in [year] and since then I have been working at [company] as a [role]. Most of my work has been on [area, for example C plus plus based firmware or backend services], and recently I worked on [one concrete thing]. Outside of work I keep up with DSA and system design. I applied to Qualcomm because the role lines up with what I have been doing.

6. Why are you leaving your current company?

Why they ask: They want to make sure you are not running away from a problem you will bring with you.

How to answer: Stay positive and forward looking. Talk about what you want to grow into, not what is wrong with your current place. Never badmouth your manager or team, even if the reason is genuine.

Sample answer: I have learned a lot at [company], especially around [skill], but the work has become fairly repetitive and I want to move closer to [embedded or systems or platform] work. Qualcomm does that at a scale I have not had access to so far. It is a growth decision for me, not a complaint about my current team.

7. Do you have any other offers or are you interviewing elsewhere?

Why they ask: They use this to judge how fast they need to move and how serious you are about Qualcomm.

How to answer: Be honest but do not oversell. If you have another offer, say so and give a rough timeline, because it can speed up their decision. If you do not, say you are in early stages elsewhere and Qualcomm is your first choice.

Sample answer: I am in early stages with a couple of other companies, nothing at offer stage yet. Qualcomm is the one I am most interested in because of the team and the work. If there is a decision coming, I would appreciate knowing the timeline so I can plan accordingly.

8. Are you comfortable with the shift timings and any on call or weekend work?

Why they ask: Some Qualcomm teams work with US counterparts or have release cycles, so they check your flexibility upfront.

How to answer: Be honest about what you can do. If you can handle occasional late calls or weekend releases, say yes and give an example of when you have done it before. Do not agree to something that will burn you out in three months.

Sample answer: Yes, I am fine with occasional late calls or weekend work during a release. In my current role I have had weeks where I had to sync with the US team in the evening, and I managed it by planning my day around it. I would just want it to be the exception and not the default every week.

9. What do you know about Qualcomm and the team you applied to?

Why they ask: They want to see if you did basic homework or just clicked apply.

How to answer: Know the team name from your interview calls and one line about what Qualcomm makes in that area. Do not recite the annual report. If you are unsure about the team, say what you understood from the interviews and ask them to correct you.

Sample answer: From my interviews I understood this is the [Display or Modem or Multimedia] team, and the work is around [one line about the area]. Qualcomm's chips go into a lot of phones and now automotive and IoT as well, so the scale is large. I will be honest, my knowledge is mostly from the interview conversations and some reading, so I would like to understand more about the current roadmap.

10. Walk me through a project you are proud of.

Why they ask: Even in HR they sometimes ask this to check ownership and how you explain your own work.

How to answer: Pick one project, not three. Say what the problem was, what you specifically did, and what changed as a result. Keep numbers only if they are real. Two minutes maximum.

Sample answer: In my last project at [company or college], we had [problem, for example slow build or high latency]. I owned the [specific part] and changed [what you did]. It brought [real result, for example build time down from X to Y or fewer crashes]. The part I am proud of is not the fix itself but that I drove it end to end, including the testing and the rollout.

11. What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Why they ask: Standard check on self awareness, and whether your weakness is a real one or a humble brag.

How to answer: Give one real strength with a short example. For the weakness, pick something genuine and say what you are doing about it. Avoid 'I work too hard' and avoid naming a skill the job depends on.

Sample answer: My strength is that I am steady when something breaks. In my last release we hit a bug two days before go live and I stayed on it and coordinated with the QA team till it was closed. My weakness is that I used to take on too much myself instead of asking for help early. I have been deliberately splitting work and asking questions sooner, and it has helped.

12. Do you have any questions for us?

Why they ask: They want to see if you are actually thinking about the job or just waiting to get out of the room.

How to answer: Ask two or three real questions about the team, the work or the process. Ask about the next steps and the expected timeline, because candidates report long silences after interviews. Do not ask about salary again here.

Sample answer: Yes, a couple. What does the first six months look like for someone joining this team? And what is the usual timeline from here to a decision, since I have heard the process can take a few weeks. I would also like to know which site the role is based out of, so I can plan accordingly.

What candidates report about the Qualcomm HR round

Offer delays and approvals. Candidates report offers getting stuck because higher management stopped approvals, and some were told results were positive but the offer never came. Treat a verbal positive as not final until the written offer is in hand.

Long silence after interviews. Multiple candidates report no update for days or weeks after clearing all rounds, and in one case the same job was reposted on LinkedIn. It is common to have to follow up more than once.

Process speed. One reported case moved fast, with the first two rounds on the same day and an offer in the first week of the following month. So timelines vary a lot by team and hiring cycle.

Extra round after technicals. A candidate for a UI Engineer role had three back to back technical rounds and was then called for one more 45 minute round without being told if it was technical or managerial. Be ready for an unannounced extra round.

No written or online assessment. At least one reported Senior Engineer process had no written test or online assessment and started directly with interviews.

Location. Qualcomm hires across Indian sites including Hyderabad and Bangalore, so relocation and site preference are fair questions to expect in HR.
